When children enter the school at 8.40 am they know that their teacher is waiting for them in the classroom. This is a great opportunity for the children to catch-up on any unfinished work and get answers to questions with the support of the teacher.
Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 have three work sessions and two short breaks in the morning.
Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have four lessons and one central break.
The children enjoy their lunches at 12:30 supervised by lunchtime staff and the Headteacher. We have a hot lunch option which parents can order online; our hot lunches provide a delicious variety of choices for our students – including religious and dietary requirements. Starting from September 2021, St Christopher’s School will have cooked School Lunches as part of standard provision; we will have our own kitchen and chef.
Packed lunches are also popular. Parents have shown great ingenuity and invention, providing interesting and healthy packed lunches. We emphasise the importance of healthy eating, so chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks are not allowed.
After lunch the children enjoy a break in the school playground before returning to the classroom for afternoon lessons. The timetable is similar for both age groups. At the end of the day, the children have the choice of going home at 15:30, staying for any available clubs or activities or staying on at school until as late as 18:00 in Aftercare. The school provides a wide variety of free school clubs; only two sports clubs are chargeable, one for KS1 and one for KS2.
Aftercare staff provide a wholesome snack and a myriad of games and activities. Older children are also able to finish their homework in Aftercare. If it is warm, children can play outside. When the children go home, they are usually tired out but content.
