What is the purpose of Social Media?

Using Social Media gives our school the chance to communicate and engage with you- our community. It’s one of the biggest benefits of social media in our school. We want to make sure our school stands out, showing what makes our school special and why parents should send their children to our school. At St. Christopher’s, we are aware of the competition amongst Independent schools and as parents you are looking for more than academic performance and extracurricular activities when choosing a school for your child.

Everyone nowadays lives on social media. One of the first things people do when searching for a new school is to look at social media platforms. This may be because our prospective parents are looking to see what everyday life would be like for their child, the authenticity of the content which is active with real people posting about what it is like to go to our school. This is why, we feel that it is vital to stay up to date with Social Media platforms to showcase just what goes on inside our delightful little school!

We are therefore on 4 Social Media platforms: Facebook, Instagram & Pinterest.

Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows our school to send out short messages called tweets. Tweets are limited to 140 characters but can also contain media like photos and or videos. When a Twitter account is set up, the default is for it to be public, so anyone can ‘follow’ our school and our tweets are visible to any Twitter user. When someone ‘follows’ our school, you see our tweets in the timeline. The purpose of Twitter is to ‘create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers’.

Facebook is a social networking site that makes it easy for our school to connect and share with our community.  Facebook allows our school to send messages and post status updates to keep in touch with our community. We can also share different types of content, like photos and links. But sharing something on Facebook is a bit different from other types of online communication. Unlike email or instant messaging, which are relatively private, the things we share on Facebook are more public, giving our wider community an insight into teaching and learning taking place.

Instagram is a photo and video sharing platform, where we shall upload work and other achievements on a weekly basis. Similar to Twitter and Facebook, Instagram helps to create a community where posts can be liked, viewed and commented upon.

Pinterest is a visual medium that our community can use to find ideas to support their child with academic and pastorial development in the comfort of thier home.  subject folders called ‘boards’ have been created with resources  called ‘pins’ for students and parents to access.
