Our library provides an excellent variety of non-fiction books which are accessible to the children from Reception through to Year 6.
In addition, each class has their own class library of appropriate fiction books which the children read avidly. They are updated regularly by the class teacher.
Children have a scheduled weekly lesson with the Computer teacher who plans lessons in consultation with the class teacher, to deliver a seamless link with topics and subjects from the classroom. Examples of areas of work covered include Paint tools, Data Handling, Databases, Control, Spreadsheets, Slide Presentation, Graphic Modelling and basic programming using Scratch. Children also learn how to use the internet for independent research. We have recently acquired a brand new class set of iPads which are used to deliver Computing lessons to the pupils in their own classroom.
Our students experience wonderful music lessons where singing, listening, musical composition, percussion, rhythm and pitch are part of the curriculum. Our Summer and Christmas Concerts involve all children from Reception to Year 6. Here they have the opportunity to sing, act and entertain family and friends.
Almost 60% of our pupils play a musical instrument.
The children have the advantage of top level tuition from peripatetic teachers from the age of 6. The musical instruments on offer are piano, violin, viola, cello, flute and guitar.
When the children enter Year 3 they may learn the recorder at no extra charge. The school has a senior choir and they are involved in senior school Music Days, large Charity concerts, Carol singing at Wembley Park station in aid of charities, as well as singing at a local nursing home at Christmas. They perform for parents at the end of year Prize Giving ceremony.
Children from the youngest to the oldest attend musical concerts at the Barbican run by the London Symphony Orchestra. Here they are introduced to classical pieces of music in a fun way, and have the opportunity to see a full orchestra in action.
We enjoy our children’s music and, as a result, enjoy our reputation for excellence in the field.
